Assistant/Associate/Full Professor of Cow Calf Management

West Texas A&M University, a Member of The Texas A&M University System, invites applications for an endowed chair in beef cow calf management (40% teaching 40% research 20% outreach). This full time (12 month) position at West Texas A&M University has been created to attract and support an outstanding faculty member with responsibilities in teaching/research/service supportive of the cow calf/rangeland industry in the Texas Panhandle and Great Plains. The chair will be expected to develop teaching, research and service programs supporting the department of Agricultural Sciences and the ranching community in the areas of teaching (graduate and undergraduate) research (cow calf nutrition/rangeland resources) and outreach to the ranching community. Teaching duties will include existing or new courses within the successful candidate's area of expertise at the undergraduate and graduate level. Innovative research approaches to enhance the sustainability and profitability of the grazing beef cow-calf systems are expected. Research areas include but are not limited to interactions between nutrition, reproduction, animal health, management and range forage grazing systems. It is expected that the candidate will interact extensively with the cow calf industries within the Texas Panhandle and collaborate with scientists at West Texas A&M University, Texas A&M Agrilife Research and Extension, the Texas Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory and USDA-ARS Conservation Laboratory at Bushland. The successful candidate will be expected to attract and secure extramural funding, publish in peer reviewed journals, advise graduate students, and develop and deliver effective educational programs to the ranching community.
Qualifications and Responsibilities
- Earned Ph.D. in Animal Science, Range Science, Natural Resource Management or closely related area from an accredited institution.
- Commitment to excellence in classroom teaching at the undergraduate and graduate level.
- Documented experience in planning, designing, implementing and publishing range beef cow/rangeland resource research.
- Evidence of collaborative research accomplishments and outreach to cow calf ranchers.
- Demonstrated ability and skills in leadership, fiscal management, organization, and building teamwork.
- Demonstrated success in obtaining extramural funding, and experience developing collaborative research with other scientists, research centers and/or agencies and organizations.
- Demonstrated ability working with diverse agricultural clientele, agri-business, community groups, local and state policy makers.
- Commitment to the core mission of the university, experience and understanding of administration and project development, and the application and use of information technology to further that mission.
- Ability to work across distance to accomplish research and outreach missions.
